Sera and banijay asia partner to find india’s first spacestar

- SERA has partnered with Banijay Asia to develop a media property around the final phases of astronaut selection that will document the drama, disappointment and joy of a nationwide hunt to find India’s next astronaut.
Banijay has been the driving force in Indian television production for over a decade, pioneering new formats in the market and demonstrating extraordinary foresight in terms of anticipating consumer demand with shows such as Big Boss, Into the Wild with Bear Grylls and Roadies. From the very start of the partnership discussions it was clear that Banijay shared SERA’s vision of opening up the excitement and opportunity of space exploration and research to a mass audience.

- Over the last six months both teams have worked together to develop a show that will take finalists from the initial phases of the Indian Astronaut selection process

- and put them through a series of space and STEM team challenges to help the public decide who among them has what it takes to represent India on the Mission.

Candidates will be put through a series of simulated space mission activities
The show will introduce elements of astronaut training as well as simulated in-space activities to give viewers a front-row seat on a real-life space mission. These will include High-G test environments that re-create rocket launch conditions, underwater diving tasks to mimic spacewalks, and mars rover assembly and operation to test the limits of the candidates’ mental focus, memory and teamwork skills.

Candidates will be able to appeal directly to the Indian public for their chance to becomes India’s next astronaut
The Indian candidates chosen by the public will join the finalists from the five other regional seats on the Mission in a global finale that will see them put into three crews of 6 to compete for a place on the New Shepard rocket. The show will culminate in a livestream of the launch itself.
